ABOUT US
OAK provides a voice, community, and sense of normality to heal from the emotional tolls of diagnosis & treatments for kids!
What Drives OAK?
Oncology And Kids was founded in 2020 with the goal of continuing the legacy of the 40-year cancer camp program, Camp Reach for the Sky (CR4TS). CR4TS is comprised of several camps throughout the year supporting children diagnosed with cancer AND their families. OAK provides safe spaces for children affected by cancer and their families to create lasting memories, forge lifelong friendships, and build the resiliency they need to heal. In addition to our cornerstone camps for kids and families, we provide wraparound services for those in need throughout the year.
Based in San Diego, California, OAK is the childhood oncology organization that provides a voice, community, and sense of normalcy for children with cancer and their families as they recover from the emotional toll of diagnoses and treatment. Whether patient, sibling, daughter, or son, no child will be alone when dealing with childhood cancer. Together we can truly heal!
OAK’S Values
I. Integrity
It starts with transparency. We do what we say. No excuses. Just honest answers. This requires accountability from the top down, with everyone holding each other responsible to always stand up for and do what’s right. The result is something we don’t take lightly and can never afford to lose—trust from every donor, community, and family we serve.
II. Empathy
Our team is built on individuals who truly get it. Whether core staff or volunteers carefully chosen from hundreds of potential applicants, we all share a unique capacity for compassion. We understand what it’s like to live with childhood cancer. We know how to navigate its emotional nuances. We recognize the little moments that can help kids and families feel whole again. Above all, we care.
III. Empowerment
Families affected by childhood cancer are the toughest around, even if they don’t realize it. Our role is to guide them in finding the strength within. We provide safe, supportive spaces for children to make friends, create memories, and take chances. We give parents opportunities to see their kids laugh and just be kids again. Why? To help survivors build the resiliency they need for life beyond cancer.
IV. Impact
Each of us is here to make a difference. One that’s hard to quantify, yet easy to spot. You can see it in the way we do whatever it takes to accommodate every need. It can be felt as week-long friendships grow into year-round group text chains. Most importantly, it is clear in every smiling child who returns transformed to their astonished parents.
V. Family
We may come from different walks of life, but we all share a deep, personal connection. This unique bond develops almost instantly and easily transcends the differences and distances that separate us. It’s the reason why households plan their entire year around one week. We’ve built a community unlike any other that supports each other and takes care of its own. This is the family we choose, and we are stronger together.

Acorn
The acorn in Oncology and Kids represents the foundation of our organization; the kids. Newcomers start out as acorns, planting the seeds of greatness where we foster their growth into adulthood.
What the Acorn?
Roots
Once taken care of, the acorn takes it’s roots, spreading into the soil to become the foundations of a mighty OAK tree as it interacts with the community of nature around them.
Tree
What once was the tiny acorn is now the mighty OAK tree! Those who were once newcomers are now the protectors of others providing shade and guidance.
